Curtis Landers Day
Curtis Landers is a young Rugby League player from the Forster-Tuncurry Hawks that was injured whilst playing in an Under 15’s match on May 24th. Curtis fractured both his C2 and C3 vertebrae in a regulation tackle.
The Newcastle Rugby League are encouraging all of our clubs junior and senior, to hold a collection day on the weekend of July 12th/13th.
We are encouraging all clubs to take the buckets around on this day during our “Curtis Landers weekend”. By having all clubs participating on this day, we are hopeful of raising a considerable amount to go towards Curtis’s ongoing costs for his rehabilitation.
Curtis has been is in the Westmead Children’s Hospital where his parents are staying in accommodations nearby to be there for their son who the Doctors have dubbed “the Miracle Boy” because of the fact he is off the ventilator and he has movement in his hands.
There is an auction night being held at Forster on July 31st in hopes of raising funds for Curtis where they have had numerous jerseys donated by the NRL clubs.
Curtis has a long road to recovery but is showing great signs of improvement and we hope to play even a small part on behalf of the clubs that participate within our junior and senior competitions.
We would like to see all clubs collect money for this worthy cause, the clubs will then either bring the money into the office of the Newcastle Rugby League or we will pick it up from you, we will then count the money and hand the takings over on behalf of all clubs that participate.
All participating clubs will be named within a certificate that will be handed over along with the money.
Let’s get that Hunter Valley / Novacastrian spirt going and get involved in this weekend where everyone attending games on this weekend have the opportunity to make a donation and being able to dig deep for this young man who loves our great game as much as the rest of us do.
Curtis Landers and Alex McKinnon seen here both battling the battle.
